Mother’s Day driving tour!

Mother’s Day weekend is upon us and the weather forecast says it is going to be beautiful! I’m participating in the Flagstaff Potters’ Guild Mother’s Day driving tour Saturday and Sunday. Joining me at the Z House are two other talented potters: Chandra Robinson and Sandy Quintanilla; five other locations are on the tour, so be sure to visit all of us to see the wide range of talent in our town.

We’ll be doing demos and having kids’ activities throughout the weekend, stop by to see us 10-5 Saturday or Sunday. Park next door at the lot with the orange balloons. See you soon!

Viola’s Tomato Festival

Flowers, art and tomatoes! A perfect kick-off for the gardening season.

The folks at Viola’s Flower Garden are hosting their annual Tomato & Art Festival May 5th & 6th in Flagstaff. Bring your gardening list and choose from over seventy-five varieties of tomato plants. They will be offering free gardening seminars for this two day event which runs Sat 8:30-5:30, Sun 10-4.

I will be there all day Saturday with a garden-themed pottery booth!

What’s happening:

Food by Mulkey’s Food Works fixing up gourmet hamburgers
Art Show of hand crafted art.
Face Painting for the kids or adults by Laura.
Live Music both days.
A Free bag of Hickman’s Chicken Manure for every customer until its gone

Back into production mode

I honestly don ‘t know what happened to the last two months! Where has the time gone? Well… actually I DO know where the time went. February was spent working more than full-time at my day job. I knew it was coming because we’re in crunch time on our project. Then at the end of February, I traveled to the Pacific Northwest to present at a conference and spent two weekends visiting good friends. Unfortunately, I got pretty sick when I got home and spent the better part of a week in bed, losing a whole weekend that would have otherwise been spent in the studio.

When I was away, my brother-in-law cleaned up the Z House property to get it ready for the new fence. The back yard looks so much better! It was full of construction debris, logs, trash, and weeds. Now it’s all cleaned up:

I’ve spent the past two weekends in the studio, back in production mode. I’ve been making teacups, mugs and plates:

Today I did a bunch of trimming and painted the parrot butter dishes with underglazes. This is a fun little side project that came about as a request from a coworker whose favorite butter dish had a mishap and ended up in several pieces. She glued it back together so I could see what it looked like (it’s in the pic above). Here’s my version ready to be fired:

We are battening down the hatches for a huge spring snowstorm… the university already called a snow day for Monday so if I can get into town I’ll have an extra day in the studio. Yay!
