New work

I am getting ready for a show next Saturday and also had a few commissions in this firing. All of the images are behind thumbnails. Work made with colored slips. These bowls are my idea of abstract fun. They are the perfect size for soup or cereal, about 6.5 inches in diameter:

The plate was inspired by water. I made two of them on commission and am considering doing a full line of this design for my application to put my work into a local gallery. This plate is seven inches in diameter. I also made some five-inch saucers of the same design :

“Four seasons” spoon rests. Made on commission, the customer asked for a set of four spoon rests, each of a different color to represent the four seasons.

Clown loach cup. Another commission, I was asked to create a large mug with a clown loach sitting atop the handle. The mug will hold about 16 ounces. The outside is black, inside is a teal blue. I brought the blue up onto the rim and onto the handle, to make it appear that the fish splashed up onto the handle.

Frog cups. I love frogs. These are all small, 8 - 10oz cups.

A striped cup. Striped with colored slips. 10 oz.

First commission

This is my first commission. It is a clown loach sitting atop a coffee cup. An online friend ordered it when she saw a picture of one of my frog mugs. She asked if I could make a cup for her husband with a clown loach, and I figured I could. I am very happy with this little guy and plan to make more fish mugs in the new year.

Photography practice

I have been practicing photographing my work. I think the pictures are coming out better than my last attempt. Here are some small images of some items I will be selling at my show on December 1. If you would like to see a full-size of any of these pictures let me know via the comments. The full-sized pictures show a lot of detail.

I still have some work to do with lighting and shadow, which I don’t think will be properly addressed until I get a photo tent to diffuse the light. I think it will be worth the investment so am going to order one this week. At least with these pictures, the focus is on the pots rather than the wrinkles in the sheets.

Cup and saucer sets - all of these cups are 8-10oz size:

Bowls. This is a tiny bowl, measuring 3 inches in diameter:

A set of soup bowls, each measuring about 6 inches in diameter:

Soup/salad bowls, measuring 6.5 inches across:

This last set of bowls measures about 6 inches in diameter.

Decorated greenware

Here’s a picture of what I have been working on recently. This stuff is all waiting for its first firing. I am having a lot of fun playing with color and design.
