About Me
Hi, and welcome to my website! My name is Dina Barnese. I live in the beautiful mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona. At 7000 feet, we enjoy a cool summer and snow in the winter, but we still get plenty of sunshine.
I have a small ceramics studio set up in the spare bedroom of my home. My work table is made from part of a bowling alley lane covered with canvas. It’s sturdy, to say the least! I use this workspace to make handbuilt objects as well as use it for a wedging and glazing/decorating table. I also have my potter’s wheel and shelf space in this room. The room is also shared with my desk and computer.
I make wheel-thrown and handbuilt pottery from cone 6 stoneware. I use two types of clay, depending on the piece. I love color and do a lot of decorating with stains and engobes/underglazes. I fire all of my work to cone 6 in an Olympic Torchbearer 2327g kiln. This is a 7 cu. ft. propane-fired, three burner kiln that is set up outside.
I have recently become interested in paperclay and plan to experiment with it a lot this summer (this being 2008).
